can i just get a switch and connect the remote wire from the sub to one part of the switch and the other remote half from the cd player to the other part of the switch? would it work?

Yes you can put a switch inline with your REM wire.

If I understood this than yes. But to be clear, you would take the "remote" wire from the headunit and run it to the switch. Then from the switch to the usuall hook up on your amp. It’s always a good idea to do this anyways. It doesn’t effect sound quality at all. But it gives you the option to turn your subs off at will.

Yes, you can just put a switch inline with the REM wire. That would mean that when your car is running you will be able to turn your amp on and off. Your amp will still turn on and off with your radio if you kept the swith on so you wouldn’t have to worry about turning it off with the switch when you leave your car.
