How much louder is a ported box compaired to a sealed subwoofer box?

How much louder is a ported box compaired to a sealed subwoofer box? Is there a big difference? I am buying 2 15″ Kicker CVX subwoofers at 1000watts rms each. I am just trying to decide which box to go with. Thanks Much!

You want SPL or SQ? How much room do you have for the box? How much power are you going to hit them with? A ported box will be louder. The sub will have lower power handling, but is more efficient. I prefer sealed boxes, because the bass is tighter, and the subs have higher power handling.

trying new things, is there anything wrong with putting port on outside of the subwoofer box?

I’ve been trying different things with subwoofer boxes and one thing I was going to try is mount the port on the outside of the box. Does anybody see something wrong with this? Currently Im planning on putting in 3 P212D2′S
ive calculated the volume for the missing port and am going to build it around those demensions

I do not think this will work well the port length is usually determined by finding the inside volume of the sub box and calculating the correct port length if you mount the port on the outside i think you will not get as good of sound as if you mounted the proper length port on the inside.

What kind of subwoofer box should I get for 2 12" Alpine Type R subwoofers?

I am getting 2 12" Alpine Type R subwoofers and I need a box to put them in and i am planning of buying it at audio express so they can install it for 1$. What kind of subwoofer box should I get?

Sealed.

a 10 cubic feet subwoofer box or 2 5 cubic feet boxes?

so I have these 2 15" kicker CVRs and I am about to build 2 subwoofer boxes 5 cubic feet @ 30 hz each (50 square in port and about 24 inch long)

but I could also do 1 big 10 cubic feet box for my 2 15" cvrs sharing the whole inside volume of the box, and also set it a 30 hz with the proper port dimmensions. I was thinking 100 sq in of port and I will compute the length.

what set up will give me the mos SPL, 2 individual 5 cubic feet plus port per box or one large 10 cubic feet plus port.

btw they will be placed were the back seat used to be in my chevrolet extended cab. and they will be facing upwart, both sub and port.

Regardless of the amount of air volume needed behind each woofer, an enclosure where each woofer has its own air space has a few advantages:
1) stucturally more solid – the less square-footage of panels around a single enclosure, the less the panels move or resonate.
2) a smaller enclosure generally results in more controlled bass. A single huge enclosure wont sound as "tight", even with the larger port and double the driver surface area. This is a subjective advantage.
3) if a woofer blows out in a single large enclosure shared with other woofers, it’s essentially the same as making the inside of the enclosure larger, causing the remaining good woofers to move more at low frequencies (higher excursion), putting the other driver(s) in danger of damage from overexcursion. Putting each woofer in its own enclosure isolates the woofers mechanically.

is it nessesary to use foam/insulation when building a subwoofer box?

i am building a bandpass subwoofer box for my car and i am wondering if it is nessesary to use foam/insulation to deaden the sound. i usually use it when i build speaker boxes but i dont know if subwoofer frequencies will resonate like mid and high ones do. in case your wondering i have 2 800 watt 12 in (generic brand) subwoofers im putting in it for now anyway.

insulation or polyfill is normally used in sealed boxes that are smaller than the manufacturer of the sub recommends. The reason we use it is to diffuse the backwaves so that the soundwaves don’t bounce back off the inside of the box and hit the back of the speaker cone. When this happens it causes the cone to vibrate and distorts or partially cancels out the sound.
If the sealed side of your bandpass box is smaller than the recommended size for the sub, filling the sealed side will help. I never use polyfill in ported boxes, it is not necessary.

where can I buy subwoofer boxes for a ‘97 silverado reg cab?

I want them to fit under the seats. I’m not looking for thumping 12’s, just 8’s. I think there’s enough room 4-6" but i’m not paying $150 to have somebody build them for me. i don’t want to put behind my seats as I am 6′1 and my seat is slid back.

Are there any upfiring subwoofer boxes/enclosures for a 2008+ Sierra/Silverado?

I was wondering if there were any upfiring subwoofers box for a 2008 sierra. I’ve been looking all over the web and I can only find downfiring.

If anyone knows of a downfiring box please tell me the name or give me a link!

Thanks,
Ryan
Because they would beat harder, and i have seats to cover them when someone is in the back. When noone is in the back I’d just lift up the seat.

y do you want up firing then you run into the risk of someone punching your sub

Is this true about subwoofer boxes?

I heared the bigger the subwoofer box is then you will get more bass out of your subs and my subs are 1200 watts each JBL GTO’s and Im running two 500 watt amps JBL GTO’s for each sub is this a good setup and if the box is bigger then will I get more bass out of it because I custom built my own box and it is almost twice as big as a normal sub box that holds two 12’s

you need to go by the specs of the company for that sub. if you made it twice as big as it is recommended you will hurt your subs

Where to find rhino liner subwoofer boxes??

I’m looking for a sub box for my car, but I’ve heard that the rhino liner constructed boxes are much better and longer lasting. Are they made completely from this or is it only sprayed around a normal box? Anyone know the best place to look for them?

here is a link to one that makes them

hope this might be what you are looking for

it is a mdf box with a lining sprayed on it
