Maybe he likes accurate bass. Not everbody like the sloppy boom, boom, boom sound. I haven’t owned ported boxes since the early 90’s. My current system runs 2 x 12″ powered by 1000w Alpine. It hits hard and accurate. Way more bass than I want or need, but it sounds so tight.

dynamat if you want to spare your metal. Sealed vs Ported is a personal choice. With ports you dont need as much power to get the same sound. Big ports are not a good idea tho. You need to keep a good amount of pressure.

I recently installed a 13W7 (sealed box built to JL’s specs) powered by a JL 1000/1 monoblock amp in a 2000 Mustang GT
I had to remove the stock rear deck speaker embly so I could have the sub up against the backseats (woofer facing trunk)
It hits so insanely hard and I love how clean it sounds being in a sealed box, Only downside is the subwoofer is beating my car apart lol..ive had to tighten the rear wing bolts down already and im trying to find a few new rattles that have popped up.
