If I had a Alpine SWR-1542D 15" Type-R Series Subwoofer (4ohm + 4ohm) would a JL Audio 1000/1 amp be to much?

That is too much power for that sub. The sub is rated for 750w rms and the amp is 1000w rms. That is too great a gap to for the sub. Since that amp will push 1000w like it is rated for the sub won’t last too long before it eventually fails.

You’re trying to run 1000W to one speaker! Even if it is a 15", that’s still too much power for a single speaker.
