To me, it depends on the type of music you listen to and how much room you have to spare. A ported/vented box is bigger then a sealed box. I prefer sealed boxes because I like the tight bass for my Heavy Metal / Rock music. But I think ported sounds better for cRap.

i would go with the vented and if you plan on building your own box i would get someone to design the box for you because the size of the port is everything

It would be best to read the specs on the subwoofer, Some need to be vented some dont.

ported IS vented

there are 3 basic types of boxes

sealed: one side of the speaker is in a sealed container

ported/vented: one side of the speaker is in a ported container
